People familiar with the matter pointed out that the Hong Kong Securities Regulatory Commission has held discussions with cryptocurrency ETF issuers on providing pledge services through licensed platforms. The discussions are still in progress and there is no clear timetable for the decision. In response, a spokesman for the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission declined to comment on the news.
Serra Wei, chief executive officer of Aegis Custody, said discussions between Hong Kong ETF issuers and regulators about pledges have been healthy and said it would be consistent with Hong Kong's regulatory system. Serra Wei, who was not involved in relevant discussions, believes that including pledges in the spot Ethereum ETF would be a milestone for Hong Kong. Aegis Custody provides custody technology solutions to banks in Hong Kong.
